PRESS RELEASE

Seminars to help business maximise profit!

The Business & Environment Management Scheme is pleased to announce a series of events and seminars for local businesses to assist them to improve resource efficiency, gain that competitive edge and maximise profits.

The first of these events, WISE UP TO WASTE is due to be held on 27th October 2004 at the Comfort Inn, Bicker. This event is being delivered in partnership with the Environment Agency and Envirowise. It will give businesses an insight into the benefits and techniques of waste minimisation and resource efficiency, the legislation surrounding waste and the assistance that is available to help business to maximise resource efficiency.

Gavin Scott, project co-ordinator, commented, ‘The true cost of waste is often underestimated and for many businesses is seen as the cost associated with getting the bins emptied…. If we factor in the costs of raw materials, wasted energy, lost sales value and labour costs in making products which end up in the bin then the picture is very different. Through the BEMS project and these seminars and events we hope to assist local businesses to reduce these costs, use resources more efficiently and deliver sustainable profits’.

In November, BEMS will be running a 1 day course on Environmental Awareness. This course which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health is due to take place on 24th November at the Comfort Inn, Bicker. The course is aimed at anyone within an organisation wanting to learn more about the business context of environmental management and resource efficiency.

Anybody interested in finding out more about these events and others that will be taking place later in the year should contact Gavin Scott on 01775 764842, or training@bems.co.uk, or look at the events pages on www.bems.co.uk.
