Leading campaigner to praise Peterborough – the Environment City

Leading environmental campaigner and broadcaster, Professor Chris Baines, will be in Peterborough on Tuesday 16th November as a guest of Peterborough Environment City Trust.

Chris Baines has asked to see some of the innovative and award winning work taking place in Peterborough as part of Peterborough’s Environment City initiative and he has been asked to set out some of the challenges for Peterborough if it is to stay in the vanguard of the UK’s Environment City movement.

Sarah Fowler, Chief Executive at Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) said, "Peterborough is at the forefront of the Environment City initiative, being one of just four UK Environment Cities. Peterborough Environment City Trust has established a track record of partnership working to deliver innovative environmental projects of local and national significance. Chris will be seeing some of these success stories for himself and hearing about Peterborough’s future environmental ambitions."

In the evening, Chris Baines will set out his vision for what an Environment City of the future should look and feel like to civic and business leaders in the city at the Annual Review for Peterborough Environment City Trust. Peterborough's new Community Strategy commits the city to becoming the 'environmental capital' of England. Chris Baines will help to map out an ambitious route for the future.

Chris Baines said, "As individuals we can all make a positive difference to our environment, both in our work and in our family life. Collectively we can achieve even more, but we need the kind of inspiration and leadership that Peterborough Environment City Trust is providing. Peterborough already has a track record to be proud of, but the competition is growing stronger, and achieving environmental excellence is the key to making sure that the city continues to attract people and jobs."
