A Cycle Through Time
British Isles – A Natural History
You have seen the programme now experience the real thing!
Alan Titchmarsh has been guiding us through the last 3 billion years of Britain’s natural history every Wednesday evening on BBC1. Now you have the chance to see what has happened to change the face of Peterborough’s Fenlands from Jurassic seas to Bronze Age marshes.
Peterborough Environment City Trust who worked with the BBC on producing a ‘Cycle Through Time’ are leading a guided bike ride on Saturday 16th October starting at the Key Theatre, Peterborough Embankment at 10.45 for 11.00 a.m.
This 11 mile (approx. 2 hour) ride will take you out to the edge of the fens and describe how over the last 170 million years this fascinating area has changed with some of the most dramatic events happening in just the last two hundred years.
The ride is free, just bring a roadworthy bike and suitable clothing. Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. There will be an option to call into the Flag Fen Visitor Centre where there is a discounted entrance charge to go around the site.
If you want to find out more about the ride or for anyone wishing to follow the route at another time, you can download a map and print off pages describing the route and the history of Peterborough’s Fenland from the BBC website.
