Geology Audit

Peterborough, as an Environment City, is showing a positive commitment to the concept of sustainability by actively seeking to protect its geological resource. - David Attenborough

The Peterborough Geology Audit (1999) provides the foundations for policies to conserve some of the world's best Jurassic fossil sites. In order to prevent potentially important sites being lost through waste disposal and landfill, reclamation schemes, quarrying and new development, the Peterborough Geology Audit has:

Established a geological database for the Peterborough district

Identified Regionally Important Geological Sites (RIGS)

Established a basis for the co-ordination and management of geological conservation in the Peterborough area

Uses survey results to set targets and shared monitoring systems for sustainable transport planning

Proposed action plans to protect and enhance key geological sites

Requested that the results of the Audit be adopted by Peterborough City Council as Supplementary Guidance and incorporated into the planning process

This informative publication, with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough, identifies the important geological sites within the District along with the action plans for their conservation.

Copies of the Audit are available from PECT for £5.00 including post and packaging.
