Greater
Peterborough Green Grid
A vision for a quality green environment in an expanding
city
Peterborough Environment City Trust is working with partners
in the city - including Peterborough
City Council, Natural
England, The
Countryside Agency, Forestry
Commission and the Environment
Agency - to improve the network of green open spaces
(the green infrastructure) of Peterborough.
The forecast expansion of Peterborough, linked to the London-Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough
Growth Area, makes it essential that the correct infrastructure
is in place to meet increased demands. As well as infrastructure
to support the inevitable demands on transport, health and education,
improvements to green open spaces are required to maintain and
enhance quality of life for both people and wildlife.
PECT is working with our partners to define a vision, framework
and action plan for the protection and enhancement (in terms
of area, quality and accessibility) of Peterborough's green
infrastructure. This green grid will aim to:
  |
|
improve
the quality of life within Peterborough and make it a
place people want to live in |
  |
|
promote
the development of a green grid to help realise the potential
of Peterborough as a growth area |
  |
|
act
as a model for how sustainable communities should grow |
|
  |
|
enhance
and create opportunities for Peterborough to attract tourists
and visitors |
|
  |
|
support
initiatives that contribute to sustainable resource management,
in particular water, at the strategic level |

PETERBOROUGH'S
GREEN GRID STRATEGY
The Peterborough Green Grid Group recently published a Green
Grid Stragegy for Peterborough. This strategy outlines both
the existing green assets within the District and the new infrastructure
required to meet the city's forecast growth. This document is
available to download as a pdf at www.naturalnet.org.uk
