Large handmade flowers Peterborough Green Festival 2006

This year the Green Festival will be launched on 27 May in Cathedral Square, Peterborough and will finish on 5 June, which is also World Environment Day. The Green Festival will raise awareness of environmental issues by letting people learn whilst they are having fun. This year the Green Festival Week is co-ordinated by England Marketing (01487 822320).

Saturday 27 May

Launch Event with Band and Exhibitions - Cathedral Square, Peterborough
Join us in Cathedral Square - Hereward FM's Black Thunder will be there with Breakfast Show presenters Matt and Sarah to start off proceedings. With music from a 'Green Day' tribute band and a host of exhibits and demonstrations providing information and activities about our environment the event is sure to be a fun start to the week.
Frogs, Newts and Grass Snakes Walk - Visitors Centre at Ferry Meadows
Time: 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm
Place: Visitors Centre at Ferry Meadows
Access: Suitable for all.
Age: Suitable for all.

Details: Frogs, newts, snakes and lizards are easier to see in spring! Come along and discover more about these shy creatures on this guided walk that will take in some of their favourite places to hide. Includes pond dipping.

Evening Bird Watching Walk - Nene Washes
Time: 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm (approx)
Place: Eldernell Lane, Nr Coates (signposted from the A605)
Access: Flat grass bank with stiles. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
Age: Suitable for all.
Cost: Adult £3.00 / Child £1.00
Details: Walk along the top of the bank, looking for birds and other wildlife. Expect to see marsh harriers, barn owls, waders and ducks.

Access: Some rough ground (wellies suggested if wet). Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Details: Designated as a European Special Area of Conservation to protect the orchid-rich grassland. Come along and enjoy the wide variety of plants which grow on Barnack Hills and Holes National Nature Reserve.

Details: Various activities including fossil hinting, pond dipping, nature trails, bird watching, fossil and archaeological displays. Moth trapping on one evening, weather permitting.
