What is PECT?
Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is an independent
charitable trust. It was set up to respond to the challenge
set by Peterborough's designation in 1992 as one of four UK
Environment Cities - Leeds,
Leicester
and Middlesbrough
being the other UK Environment Cities.
PECT was formed from a partnership initiative by local authorities,
businesses, community and environmental organisations in the
city - which now embraces over 200 organisations. PECT is a
small, dynamic and creative organisation that carries out research
and implements partnership projects to protect and improve our
environment and demonstrate sustainable development as a practical
option. PECT has established a track record in delivering innovative
and award-winning environmental projects of local and national
significance, including:

Developing and bringing to schools a nationally recognised
environmental education initiative - Greener
Futures

Co-ordinating
the regional materials exchange for the East of England.

Working with householders moving into new housing developments,
seeking to embed good environmentally sustainable patterns
of behaviour before negative practices get a foothold,
thus making a difference to themselves and their environment

For PECT's 15 year anniversary, www.greenenergyswitch.co.uk was launched. The website gives local people the chance to find out more about how they can improve the energy efficiency of their homes, as well as allowing them to make ‘pledges’ as to what they will do to help the environment.

Managing the Peterborough

given the go ahead to bid for a £1 million government
funding to create a 1,000 acre South Peterborough Green
