What is PECT?

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is an independent charitable trust. It was set up to respond to the challenge set by Peterborough's designation in 1992 as one of four UK Environment Cities - Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough being the other UK Environment Cities.

PECT was formed from a partnership initiative by local authorities, businesses, community and environmental organisations in the city - which now embraces over 200 organisations. PECT is a small, dynamic and creative organisation that carries out research and implements partnership projects to protect and improve our environment and demonstrate sustainable development as a practical option. PECT has established a track record in delivering innovative and award-winning environmental projects of local and national significance, including:

Producing a series of nationally acclaimed city-wide environmental audits

Developing and bringing to schools a nationally recognised environmental education initiative - Greener Futures

Operating one of only three pilot sustainable energy advice centres in the UK - the Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre Anglia

Offering over 100 businesses an award-winning environmental support package - the Business & Environment Management Scheme

Co-ordinating the regional materials exchange for the East of England.
Eastex

Working with householders moving into new housing developments, seeking to embed good environmentally sustainable patterns of behaviour before negative practices get a foothold, thus making a difference to themselves and their environment - Seeding Sustainable Communities

For PECT's 15 year anniversary, www.greenenergyswitch.co.uk was launched. The website gives local people the chance to find out more about how they can improve the energy efficiency of their homes, as well as allowing them to make ‘pledges’ as to what they will do to help the environment.

Conceiving and delivering the multi-million pound Peterborough Millennium Green Wheel project
Managing the Peterborough Green Grid Partnership that has successfully been given the go ahead to bid for a £1 million government funding to create a 1,000 acre South Peterborough Green Park.

Worked with local communities to help them turn uninspiring open spaces into valued pieces of green open space that is valued and used by the community - Green Spaces
